Her Story - Tiller's Patient "Erin" Speaks Out

Well when I was growing up I was overweight. You couldn't tell I was pregnant, so how my mom found out was by not seeing tampons in my bathroom. So she asked me, "Are you pregnant!?" I told her, "I think so." I had all the symptoms. I knew I was pregnant, and I didn't want to tell her because I was frightened.

She was mad. She rushed me to the doctor, and he said I was six months along, and I was having a boy! I was so excited to see him moving and kicking on the screen. I got pictures of him. The doctor sent me out of the room into the hallway. I heard my mother yelling like a psycho. I was looking at my son on the sonogram and rubbing my belly not focusing on the yelling.

Then my mother came storming out of the doctors office and had a booklet. I didn't know what it was at the time, and I was looking at it in the car. "Late Term Abortion", it said. My mom snatched it out of my hand.

We went home and my mom said to pack. I was like, "Where are we going?" She told me Wichita, Kansas. We lived in [Coffeyville, Kansas] three hours away. It was Saturday, and we left Sunday afternoon.

Before we left, my mom told me we were going to Wichita because she said that they have better sonograms there than [Coffeyville]. I was so excited, because I thought that the picture I got was the best, but she said that they have 4D and color ones.

So we went to church that morning, and I was in children's church telling everyone about my big trip to Wichita. They prayed that I will have a safe trip there and back. They prayed for my baby boy too.

At 1:45 we packed up and left [Coffeyville]. We got there around 5:45 and went to Tiller's office. My mom met this guy with ugly glasses. That's all that I remembered about him and his squeaky voice. They signed a whole bunch of papers. I remembered another girl was there about a year older than me named [Dahlia]. She was from California and 5 months pregnant.

After my mom was done we went to the Suites Hotel I think that is what it was called. It was only about a block from Tiller's. We unpacked and went off to sleep. I was so excited rubbing my tummy feeling my son kick.

We woke up at 6:00 and had to be there by 8:30. The cab picked us up, and we started driving in the gate. People were yelling "Don't kill you baby!! Give it life!!" I asked my mom what are they yelling about? She said don't worry they are crazy!

We went in the clinic, walked through a metal detector, and my mom kept setting it off. We were already late, so a black lady named Edna escorted me to this dark room. People were in there watching a movie, and I seen [Dahlia] and sat next to her. I asked what we were watching and she said it was about abortion. I was confused. I didn't know what that was. Then I seen aborted babies on the screen. They showed pictures of 12 week babies to 9 month old babies murdered. I was terrified. I kept asking [Dahlia], and Edna came over and told us to shut up and watch the movie.

The movie was over and we were called one by one. I was sent to a room and had a "check up". They would smash my belly and stick things up my vagina. I was shocked I was crying, and my mom was nowhere to be found. My son was kicking me in the ribs. I was told that the worse part is to come. I didn't understand. They jabbed a big needle in my belly piercing my sons heart. That's what the "nurse" said. I asked what is that for. She said to make his heart beat stop. I was crying hysterically. They packed me up. I got in the cab and went to the hotel and went to sleep crying.

The next day I was in so much pain. Went to the clinic with the same thing people yelling. I was crying and crying. Sticks were entered into my uterus. This was going on for about three days.

On the fourth day which I think was Thursday, the contractions began. I was in labor. [Dahlia] and I were laying in beds one next to each other. A nurse would come by with a wheelchair and take us into another room with a toilet. We were told to sit on it lean and push. So I did, and my son splashed in the toilet on the third push. They then cut the umbilical cord. I was then took in the wheelchair to another room, laid on the table, and the placenta was removed.

They asked me if I wanted to see my baby, and I said "Yes". So they brought him to me, and I wept. They took footprints and fingerprints. We left and went back to [Coffeyville].

I am [17] now, and it hurts to think about it. My son would have been [5] now. I now have a 1-1/2 year old named [Josiah]. Sometimes I think it's my son that I aborted, and he came back to me.
