Tiller's Fibs

False Name

In the late 1980's, Tiller applied for an Oklahoma medical license. In doing so, he reported he had been licensed to practice medicine in California. He provided the following letter as proof of his California license.

Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure & Supervision - License # 17246

However, the physician listed on this letter is a different man who is also named George Tiller.

George Richard Tiller the abortionist from Wichita was born August 8, 1941 and went to medical school in Kansas.

The George Tiller mentioned in the above letter was born May 20, 1954, has a middle name of Edward, and went to medical school in Tennessee.  To see his California listing, click here.

False Phone Numbers

Ole George can't even be honest about his own phone numbers. On a May 2000 accident report (see below,) Tiller gave a false phone number for his home and another false phone number for his clinic.  His home phone number is unlisted.  However his clinic phone number is listed in the phone directory, listed in the yellow pages, and shown on his website.  So even IF there were a reason to lie about his home phone number, he had no reason to lie about his work phone number.

False Vehicle Identification Number

This same police report lists a 15 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) that starts with the letter I.  However, real VINs have 17 digits and never contain the letter I.

False Address of 16066 Citation Road

False Claim of "No Live Birth"

In a video made around 2001, Tiller claims that no baby has ever been born alive under his care. (Click here to listen to him say this.)  This claim is a bald-face lie, since a baby was born alive in 1993 during an attempted abortion.

This lie casts doubt on his other claim that no woman had died under his care at the time he made this video.  For a closer look at the safety of his practice, click here.

False Claims Made to His Own Supporters

In a September 9, 2002 fundraiser letter that Tiller wrote for ProKanDo (his political action committee,) Tiller told contributors that ProKanDo was raising money to defeat Tim Shallenberger, a pro-life candidate for governor. Tiller wrote, "If elected, Mr. Shallenberger will close our doors and put an end to my medical practice." However, according to reports filed with the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission, ProKanDo gave no contributions to Schallenberger's opponent during the 2002 election cycle. Instead, ProKanDo funneled the money into the attorney general's race.

In this same fundraising letter, Tiller claimed, "In my naivete, I thought my personal contribution of $200,000 to Pro Kan Do would be more than enough..." But according to the ethics report filed with the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission, Tiller had given only $40,000 to ProKanDo by the time he sent this fundraising letter on September 9th.

Sept. 9, 2002

Dear Friend of Choice:

A few months ago, I wrote inviting you to join me in forming a new organization, Pro Kan Do. Our mission is simple- inform voters and elect candidates who are pro-woman, pro-family and pro-choice. I asked for your heart, your soul, your dedication and your participation. The responses stunned and overwhelmed me. Thank you for all of the volunteer time and efforts you have put forth. Back in July when I wrote that letter, I didn't realize how daunting our task was. As you very well know, Mr. Shallenberger, the Republican anti-choice gubernatorial candidate is an ultra-conservative who will stop at nothing to limit the reproductive rights of women.

To put it simply-if elected, he will permanently close the doors of Women's Health Care Services and put an end to the work you and I have done.

Together, you and I have literally fought on the front lines to provide women with the best possible reproductive healthcare. Together, you and I have kept these doors open for more than ten years. From bombings to protests to even bullets, anti-choice terrorists have tried to close these doors. I'm not about to let a politician close them.

In my naivete, I thought my personal contribution of $200,000 to Pro Kan Do would be more than enough to alert voters to the anti-choice position of Mr. Shallenberger.

I have been advised that to effectively reach voters and alert them that Mr. Shallenberger does not trust women, we need to raise another $250,000 in just eight short weeks.

I hope you know that I would not ask for your personal contribution of funds if the fate of women's reproductive health didn't depend on it.

If elected, Mr. Shallenberger will close our doors and put an end to my medical practice.

In my life, I have had a few regrets. In college I was too busy to get involved in the civil rights marches. I missed them. I was too busy in medical school to go to President Kennedy's funeral. I missed that too.

Well, I sure haven't missed the abortion debate. I have been fighting this battle for more than thirty years. I chose to become an abortion doctor because abortion is the single greatest issue of civil rights and personal freedom for women.

I would like to have the freedom to decide where I practice and when I retire.

I don't want some ultra-conservative politician closing our doors and putting an end to my practice.

The funds we raise will be used to communicate with voters who care about issues such as family planning and reproductive rights. Voters who care about these issues understand that it is important to elect reasonable and sensible public officials.

So, friend, I ask that you stand with me again and make a contribution of funds-as well as your heart and soul and time. Together we can make sure we have a pro-choice Governor for Kansas and continue to provide women with the best reproductive health services possible, one woman at a time.

I hope you will consider contributing $35 or more and send your contribution to Pro Kan Do in my care.

George R. Tiller, MD, DABFP
