18 January 2008 Kansas proabortion Governor Kathleen Sebelius appoints Stephen Six to replace disgraced Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison. Little is known about Six, but Pro-Life activists don't have high expectations from anyone appointed by Kathleen Sebelius who has taken thousands in contributions from Tiller.
Paul Morrison is Kansas Attorney General. He was elected in 2006 with the support of abortion advocates including Tiller. Morrison replaces Phill Kline who is solidly Pro-Life. After a long battle to obtain medical record evidence, Kline charged Tiller with 30 counts. Nola Foulston, Sedgwick County District Attorney, had the charges thrown out. Click here to learn more about Nola Foulston. Kline then appointed a Special Prosecutor in the case, but Morrison fired the prosecutor the day after he took office. Now Morrison sits on the charges and on the evidence. Click here to learn more about the charges against Tiller.
THE 2006 CAMPAIGN The 2006 Attorney General's race was all about abortion. Morrison's campaign focused Kline's use of medical records in the investigation of abortion clinics. Morrison claimed this was a violation of patient privacy. Click here to watch Morrison's television ad. You may need a high speed connection to watch this video. Yet criminal investigators routinely obtain court orders for medical records when abuse is suspected. Even the restrictive HIPAA health privacy laws allow investigators access to medical records when a violation of the law is suspected. In fact, Morrison admitted that as District Attorney, he had regularly used medical records: The ad is inaccurate in saying that medical records are "never to be seen by your employer. The government. By anyone. Without your consent." Medical records are frequently requested by and provided to law enforcement and other government agencies. In fact, Morrison has said publicly that his own office regularly obtains medical records to prosecute crimes. The Wichita Eagle, October 6, 2006 Morrison's campaign received backdoor support from Tiller's political action committee ProKanDo. ProKanDo funneled money into groups that supposedly promoted "education" or "consumer protection". These groups campaigned against Kline. After Tiller poured $210,000 into the 2002 race for Attorney General, it's unreasonable to believe Morrison wasn't aware or complicit in the money ProKanDo spent to oppose Kline.
A postcard mailed by the so-called "Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection" which was funded Tiller's political action committee ProKanDo Kline was a guest on The O'Reilly Factor show a few days before the election. Click here to watch the video. You may need a high speed connection to watch this video. Click here to read a transcript and summary of this show. On this show, Bill O'Reilly stated he had proof that Tiller was breaking the law by performing late-term abortions citing "temporary depression of the mother" as the reason.
Many Kansas voters felt Kline had provided the medical records to O'Reilly. But O'Reilly also said Tiller charges $5,000 for a late-term abortion. That price is old. According to recent late-term abortion patients, Tiller now charges $10,000 for a late-term abortion. So O'Reilly's source is likely one or more women who had an abortion at Tiller's clinic several years ago. Kline was unlikely O'Reilly's source. THE WINNER LOSES In an ironic twist of fates, Phill Kline was appointed District Attorney for Johnson County... the position Morrison left vacant. So the two men switched jobs. But Morrison actually took a cut in pay when he became Attorney General. Morrison and his wife tried to convince Johnson County to cut Kline's salary.
ANALYSIS & CONCLUSION Paul Morrison seems to be a good man. He seems to be a reasonable, tough prosecutor. He seems to be a man of faith and family.
The Morrison Family use Good Shepherd Catholic Church as a backdrop for a campaign photo. Yet when offered the chance to run for Attorney General, Morrison sold out. First he sold his party affiliation by switching from Republican to Democrat. Yea, that's probably no big deal. But then he ran against Phill Kline's use of medical records though he himself had used medical records often as District Attorney. Hypocrisy! Then he sold his Catholic belief in the Sanctity of Life by saying he would end the investigation of abortion clinics. Then he prostrated himself to the Democrat fundraising machine and allowed abortion blood money to flow into his campaign. What's left to say about a "good man" who does those things?
