Tiller and his staff speak out
"We have some experience with late terminations... about 10,000 patients between 24 and 36 weeks and something like 800 fetal anomalies between 26 and 36 weeks in the past 5 years." From a speech given by George R. Tiller at the National Abortion Federation Annual Meeting on April 2-4, 1995 in New Orleans, LA
"Our purpose at Women's Health Care Services is to guide and support women through an experience which will allow them the opportunity to change the rest of their lives. We are here to help our patients make their DREAMS COME TRUE by maximizing their assets and minimizing their shortcomings. We are dedicated to providing the chance for women to live joyous, productive and free lives. The cornerstones of our organization are Attitude Team Care, Safety & Comfort. We are a Recovery-based institution." From Tiller's 1980's brochure entitled "Mid-Trimester Abortion Care". The emphasis (upper case text) is original to the brochure.
If you can deny women birth control before the initiation of, shall we say, a personal relationship, if you can deny birth control ahead of time, if you can deny a woman emergency contraception at the time of a personal relationship, and if you can deny women abortion services after a pregnancy has become established, then you can control women. Because you will overwhelm them with parenting and child rearing responsibilities. "You will be controlled. You will be subjugated. You will be marginalized. And when subjugation walks in, freedom walks out. Now what do I mean? That means gone will be equal opportunity in the work force. Gone will be equal education. Gone will be equal pay for equal work. Gone will be health care benefits. Gone will be retirement benefits. Your freedoms will be gone. Because this is not about babies, again. It's about subjugation of women by male dominated societies. It's no more; it's no less."
From an interview Tiller gave to "Alligator Cowgirl Productions" at the proabortion "March for Women's Lives" in Washington, DC in 2004.
"This baby looks pretty good." Tiller comments on the picture of a baby he aborted. THE WICHITA EAGLE, October 7, 1997
"In our organization we have made the decision that in situations of fetal abnormality, the woman is the patient and the fetus is the problem." From Tiller's 1996 video "Fetal Indications Terminations of Pregnancy". This video is distributed through ob/gyn and genetics counselors to advertise his late-term abortions for babies with defects.
"These women began to let me know I'd saved their lives. It was a very big deal." Tiller in a 1986 interview as reported in THE WICHITA EAGLE, August 20, 1993
Tiller talks about the rhythm of abortion on his website and on a 1996 video entitled "Fetal Indications Terminations of Pregnancy". This video is distributed through ob/gyn and genetics counselors to advertise his late-term abortions for babies with defects.
We believe that women have more worth and more value beyond their biological reproductive support function for a fertilized egg, embryo, fetus, child, baby, call it whatever you have - - call it whatever you wish. Women have more value beyond their biological reproductive support capacity. From Tiller's 1996 video "Fetal Indications Terminations of Pregnancy". This video is distributed through ob/gyn and genetics counselors to advertise his late-term abortions for babies with defects.
The women in my father's practice who had abortions before abortion was legal have taught me that abortion is not about families, it's not about babies, abortion is about women's hopes, dreams, potential... the rest of their lives. Abortion is a matter of survival for women. Abortion is a matter of survival for women. From a video Tiller made around 2001. This video is entitled, "Philosophies and techniques of late term abortion services at Women's Health Care Services". This video is shown to women as they arrive in Wichita for their abortion.
"I never want to see your cervix's again in here." Tiller addressing a group of women about to have late-term abortions at his clinic. This accorinding to the testimony of "Michelle".
What happens is a new reproductive social order emerges, or to put it another way, a new reproductive paradigm emerges. And this paradigm has three concepts. And the first concept is that for every woman, each pregnancy is an invited guest into her body and a welcome addition to her family. The second concept is that only the pregnant woman should decide when she's going to be a mother or a parent. And the third concept is that the woman is the patient; the fetus is the problem. From a video Tiller made around 2001. This video is entitled, "Philosophies and techniques of late term abortion services at Women's Health Care Services". This video is shown to women as they arrive in Wichita for their abortion.
"I know that the fetus is alive during the process most of the time because I can see fetal heartbeat on the ultrasound." Under oath in 1997, LeRoy Carhart talks about abortion prior to his employment with Tiller. This is found on the MTTU website.
"We're not asking for the right to suck the brains out of every child that walks down the street. We need to continue to offer safe abortions to women who need them to be done." LeRoy Carhart - one of Tiller's abortionists, OMAHA WORLD HERALD, January 26, 2001
Each of us wants you to know that every member of Women's Health Care Service is dedicated to the proposition that men and women are created reproductively equal. From a video Tiller made around 2001. This video is entitled, "Philosophies and techniques of late term abortion services at Women's Health Care Services". This video is shown to women as they arrive in Wichita for their abortion.
"My frame of mind, emotionally and spiritually, is as good as it's ever been. I receive more love, support and kindness from the community than rejection and castigation. Life is pretty good. I get to have very meaningful experiences with my patients. I'm able to help women on a level that's at the essence of their being. . . . I like what I do." George Tiller in THE WICHITA EAGLE, October 3, 2001
"Abortion is about the rest of your life. It is about making your dreams come true". George Tiller as quoted in a proabortion book "Fetus Fanatics" written by his former lobbyist Peggy (Bowman) Jarman.
As far as the technical aspects of these tragic situations are concerned, the woman should have the option of deciding how SHE wishes to end her baby's life early. George Tiller on a website blog October 7, 1998.
"Once the process of healing has begun, you may want to consider a token of the precious time you and your baby had together." These tokens include a lock of the dead baby's hair, the dead baby's palm prints or footprints, and the ashes of the baby's cremated body which the parents are encouraged to take home. This comment is found on his website. To read more on this subject, click here.
The program offers ... the celebration of spiritual sacraments such as baptism of the still born fetus and blessings for the aborted fetus." The late Reverend George Gardner, Tiller's former abortion clinic chaplain, talks about the types of funeral services available for dead babies after an abortion. Found on his website. Carhart said at least once a month, an entire fetus is expelled from the mother during a D&E he is performing. "The fetuses are alive at the time of delivery," he said. There is a heartbeat "very frequently." Carhart - one of Tiller's abortionists - admits that babies frequently are born alive during abortions. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, April 1, 2004, "Doctor: Law Would Outlaw Many Abortions"
"We have made higher education possible; we have helped correct some of the results of rape and incest; we have helped battered women escape to a safer life; we have made recovery from chemical dependency possible. We have helped women and families struggle to save their unwell, unborn child from a lifetime of pain, suffering, disability and hardship.... God Bless all the abortion workers who make FREEDOM possible in ways that we will never completely understand for hundreds of thousands of women and families each year." George Tiller lavishes praise on abortion providers... including himself. This is from a 2001 speech that was previously posted on the ProChoice.org website.
Men have had unlimited availability to 'abortion' since the beginning of time. Men can walk away from unwanted pregnancies with virtually no response from government. I believe that, unless women are given an equal right to determine whether or not they remain pregnant, they will not be considered equal. I think that's what the anti's are most afraid of-women becoming equal. LeRoy Carhart -one of Tiller's abortionists - from the "Center for Reproductive Rights" website.
We have created and hoisted our Women's Healthcare Flag as a symbol of our Outpost of Reproductive Freedom. It reminds us that we must refocus and rededicate ourselves to the proposition that all freedom and all equality for women begins with reproductive freedom. George Tiller - This is from a 2001 speech that was previously posted on the ProChoice.org website.
"Abortion is not immoral, it is a moral decision that a woman has the right to choose to protect her family and herself." LeRoy Carhart -one of Tiller's abortionists - from his August 23, 2001 press release. This was previously posted on the ProChoice.org website.
"Providing abortions and teaching other physicians how to perform abortions is my life ... Maybe it's my faith in God that gives me the courage to go on because I truly believe we are doing the right thing. I think there are certain risks in life that you have to make your mind up that you are willing to take and then take them. If I'm to die doing this then that's God's will, but until then I am doing what He wants me to do." LeRoy Carhart - one of Tiller's abortionists - OMAHA WEEKLY READER, January 23, 2003
The following are photos of banners that Tiller occasionally displays at his clinic.
The above banner reads, "Women are emotionally, mentally, morally, spiritually, and ethically competent to struggle with complex healthcare issues and come to decisions that are correct for themselves."
